If you have a mirror in your bathroom, a bottle of shampoo in your shower, a tube of lipstick in your purse, you are familiar with the word, Beauty.

Beauty is a word most of us can relate to. If we were raised in America, we have been inundated with the notion that some form of beauty is part of our desires for possibility, for hopes in a jar, or for our regrets of what might have been and what is now staring back at us.

“Beauty is as beauty does” is one of my favorite quotes. It has always been my opinion that the inner workings of beauty equal the outer workings — not the other way around.

But here we are.

Our world without the outer workings. All of us stripped down to the bare bones of having to live without outer beauty, the hairdressers, the massage therapists, the estheticians, the lash specialists, the pedicurists, the nail techs, the waxing specialists, the brow groomers, the personal trainers, the yoga instructors, our gym memberships. Lots and lots of people on the beauty front lines who make up part of our privileged rituals.

We get to go deep within and see how much beauty reserve we have in our tanks as we see the roots being to show, our toe nails starting to rub against the insides of our shoes, hairs sprouting from areas other than our heads, lashes falling, revealing a tired eye we haven’t…
